10,000 Steps to Renovate a House

My husband has too much time on his hands – thus why he is now renovating a house in Versailles.  (Note: I said Renovating – not Flipping).  This has always been in the back of his mind for as long as I have known him, so last October I gave in to his plea to take a house that screamed “Help Me” and transform it into a thing of beauty.

If any of you want to know why Replacement Cost on your homes is set at a higher price than you can probably sell your house for, I can answer that -  Debris Removal.  I cannot begin to tell you the number of dumpsters we used to haul off the interior of this house.  These dumpsters are huge, and expensive, but they can easily be filled in a day with old cabinets, carpet, drywall, bathroom walls and fixtures, etc.  Picture a house that has been gutted.

In order to take the smallest house in a subdivision and bring it in line size-wise to the other houses, we added a Master Bedroom suite.  The neighbors are very kind and stop by to check on progress and tell us how happy they are to see this house finally the size they feel it should have been all along.  Another improvement we made was lengthening the windows on the front of the house.  You wouldn’t think that could make a big difference, but so far, everyone that has seen them cannot believe the change it makes in the appearance of the house.

That’s all for now – Drywall contractor has arrived to do their thing.  Painting and hardwood flooring cannot be too far behind.
